USA Car Hire Supplier Guide

We have access to many different car hire suppliers of varying sizes in the USA depending on location. Here are some brief details of the main companies that we work with.

Alamo and National and Enterprise

Alamo Rent a Car opened in 1974 with just 4 locations in Florida. Now over 40 years later,  Alamo is the largest car hire company supplying international tourists to North America. Now part of the Enterprise Holdings company along with National, the company has the largest fleet of cars in the U.S.A at its disposal.

Many locations feature Alamo’s Choice’ product.  ‘Choice’ allows clients to choose their own car from those available in the category booked. Alamo often dots ‘upgrade’ cars into the labelled slots in the parking garage. The general rule is if it is in the row of the category you have reserved, you can take it!

This is a great way to try something new, grab a high end car, or even a brand new car for your rental period.

Dollar and Thrifty

Dollar opened in 1965 and Thrifty began some 15 years earlier in 1950!  In 1997 the two companies came together to become Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group.  DTAG grew to over 600 locations in America and Canada with its headquarters in Tulsa.  In 2010 Hertz bought DTAG with final approval to the deal given in 2013.

Dollar also offers a Choice facility at almost as many locations as Alamo. As always, the cars are supplied with a full tank of fuel. If the fully inclusive package is taken then the car can return with a full tank or is paid for on arrival and then returned empty.

Hertz

Walter L Jacobs of Chicago founded Hertz during 1918. As a result of the purchase of DTAG, The Hertz Corporation is now the second largest car hire supplier in the USA by fleet, locations and sales. The headquarters for Hertz is in Estero, Florida. Hertz has many small, downtown locations. These provide fantastic coverage for customers looking for off airport collections and returns. Some locations do not allow one-way hires. Because they are small, many depots have short hours at the weekend and are often closed altogether on Sunday or public holidays. Hertz offers an online check in facility. Your voucher will have a link to this.

Europcar

Europcar was founded in 1949 in Paris. It has been operating in America for some years now by using the Advantage Fleet to service its reservations. Look out for the Advantage sign when collecting your car.
