How To Use A SunPass While Hiring A Rental Car In Florida

Florida has over 700 miles of toll roads, bridges and causeways, the most of any US State. These can all be easily navigated by use of the state’s SunPass e-tolling system.  All of the rental car companies have signed up to use the e-tolling system in one form or another, to make it easy for their customers to whizz through the toll roads without having to pull off all the time to pay cash. Our separate post discusses which methods are used and how much is charged by the rental car companies for the privilege of using their system. Driving Licences for Car Hire in the USA

What are the requirements for driving licences for car hire in the USA?

To hire a car in the USA all drivers need a full, valid driving licence from their country of residence (but not USA or Canada). If you have a driving ban in your home country you cannot hire a car in the USA. Some car hire companies require that you have held your full licence for at least one year. But not all make this distinction – please see the checklist below. For UK drivers heading to the USA, we understand that nothing will change with regard to UK driving licences and that in other English speaking countries you will not be required to hold an IDP following Brexit. For drivers heading to Europe please click here.

Alamo was founded in 1974 with just 4 locations in Florida and quickly grew to become the largest supplier in the USA of car rentals to international travelers with nearly 6000 locations, including over 400 airport locations. In 2005 Alamo launched Online Check-in and now operate over 170 self-service kiosks at over 60 locations. With the self-service kiosks and the Alamo car hire Choice locations programme, Alamo are a very attractive proposition for your US car hire. Continue reading
